Product Description
"Don Norman's dramatic transformation from design critic to digital designer has made his observations in The Invisible Computer even more insightful and inciteful." -- Michael Schrage, Research Associate, MIT Media Lab, and author of Getting Real Technologies have a life cycle, says Donald Norman, and companies and their products must change as they pass from youth to maturity. Alas, the computer industry thinks it is still in its rebellious teenage years, exulting in technical complexity. Customers want change. They are ready for products that offer convenience, ease of use, and pleasure. The technology should be invisible, hidden from sight. In this book, Norman shows why the computer is so difficult to use and why this complexity is fundamental to its nature. The only answer, says Norman, is to start over again, to develop information appliances that fit people's needs and lives. To do this companies must change the way they develop products. They need to start with an understanding of people: user needs first, technology last--the opposite of how things are done now. Companies need a human-centered development process, even if it means reorganizing the entire company. This book shows how. More information is available at our book-of-the-month site.

Product Description
Product development of high or new and emerging technology products and systems is a challenging area in which to work. It involves multiple disciplines, endless series of tradeoffs, dilemmas, and dead-ends. Yet, it also involves captivating moments of insight and sheer excitement in juggling technological challenges together with psychological, social, organizational, financial and legal questions. This places stringent requirements to the related process control in all the levels as in idea cultivation, project management, quality control or usability and design. Have you ever considered ... *How to efficiently organize and manage the multiple, parallel development projects of ICT? *How to systematically channel your team's creativity to high quality products and services? *How your company can best benefit from university research? *What are the meaning and realization of quality systems in modern ICT organizations and processes? *How to design user interfaces to maximize product usability and market value? *How to maximize the benefits of Internet in your product development and marketing? *What are the roles and important practices of patenting, and licensing in the US and Europe? This book aims to give you a top-down treatment in these and many other important topics of ICT product and service development. Our primary objective is to provide you with an eagle-eye view both in theory and in practice and to trace the state-of-the-art development. Book authors come both from universities and industry giving thus a theory and practice balancing touch for the material. Handbook of Product and Service Development in Communication and Information Technology includes various practical telecommunication product development cases based on tracking multi-national companies' way of living and flourishing in telecommunication business. An important case we frequently refer to is Nokia's way to work. Fortunately enough, this book has been written in HUT, only a kilometer away from Nokia's headquarters, and actually much, much nearer in a research cooperational sense.

Product Description
The home is a key aspect of society and the widespread use of computers and other information appliances is transforming the way in which we live, work and communicate in the information age. The importance of this subject has never been greater with the encroachment of information technology into every corner of the home and social spheres. Many more homes in the developed world will have access to information and information technology in the near future, forming an information society. This book seeks to answer the questions surrounding this move to a `wired society', such as: + How is the new technology actually used? + What are the effects on society as a whole? + How will it affect human relationships? + Who will gain and who will lose? + What technology is there to support everyday life? + What services do people really want? + How do we study aspects of this phenomenon? Home Informatics and Telematics brings together papers from researchers around the world who are looking at this challenging problem domain. There are contributions on the technical computing areas associated with the home, the HCI of household technology, and theoretical studies on the sociological, psychological and methodological aspects of information technology in everyday life. Also included are studies on the use of computers and the Internet at home, along with fundamental research on the social nature of human communication. This volume contains selected proceedings from the International Conference on Home Informatics and Telematics (HOIT 2000), `IT at Home: Virtual Influences on Everyday Life', which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, June 28-30, 2000.

computer hardware engineering information
how are computer science contribute to neural interfacing ??? pls read down?

actually im a student pursuing my btech(engineering Information technology) final yr and after 3 days i got a seminar … my friend told me that neural interfacing-CYBORG comes under computer(contribution) … so pls give source or information about how computer software/programming /hardware etc are used in neural interfacing ….. and even suggest me any other excellent topic (latest) and the source for that respective topic…thanking you

Since a Cyborg is a human with neural interfaces to the brain & other MSK, wouldn’t this fall under medical? Of course the medical industry uses computers but it is highly specialized.
